In an effort to estimate potential costs associated with developing and operating a mosquito control program, a request was issued to each existing mosquito abatement district in the state. These existing districts include both in-house and contracted programs. The private firms with mosquito abatement contracts in the state were contacted and requested to provide information regarding costs. The districts were asked to provide the most current year operating budget including any capital outlay expenses incurred. While the costs associated with existing districts could be drastically different from a developing district, the data collected does provide some general basis for anticipated expenses.
Information submitted by participating districts is summarized on the following pages in Tables 1-4. All of the participating districts had in-house programs. As such, and because of a lack of data on contracted programs, the data provided in Tables 1-4 reflects only the costs associated with in-house programs.
