How To Apply To The AWCC AmeriCorps Program

The AWCC AmeriCorps Program is always looking for individuals that are willing to serve for 11 months and give back to their communities.  Below is a basic list of AWCC AmeriCorps member duties and requirements.  If you are interested in becoming part of the program, feel free to download the more detailed "AWCC Position Description" and/or the "AWCC AmeriCorps Member Year 1 Application."

AWCC AmeriCorps Member “At a Glance”

Goal of an AWCC AmeriCorps Member: To promote wetland conservation through restoration service projects, community volunteerism, and outreach education.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a high-school diploma or GED.
  • Be an American citizen.
  • Pass a criminal background check.
  • Have a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.

Qualities Needed

  • An interest in wetland biology and/or outreach education programs.
  • Enthuiasm -  must have a desire to play a positive role within communities.
  • Self motivation.
  • Fitness - ability to handle heavy work outdoors.
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written).

Member Requirements to Complete the Program

  • Complete 1700 hours (full-time) and 900 service hours (half-time) over 11 months of service.
  • Develop and implement at least one restoration service project during their term of service.
  • Recruit a minimum of 40 volunteers during the service period.
  • Partner with one outside organization (state agency, non-profit, etc.) to organize and/or participate in one restoration service project.
  • Participate in all scheduled member trainings during the service year.
  • Mid-term and end-of-service evaluations.

Benefits

  • Living Allowance: $16,000/year (full-time) and $8,000/year (half-time).
  • Health and child care benefits (full-time).
  • Education award (dependent on successful completion of the member requirements): $4,725 (full-time) or $2,356 (half-time).
  • Student loan deferment while actively serving.
  • Invaluable career experience.
