Tree Planting - Feb. 27th - Volunteers Needed!

Spring and Sian at Storm Warning
Tree Planting 4Hers

Help the AWCC and the St. Bernard Parish 4-H Program
Plant Bald Cypress Trees!

On February 27, 2010, the America’s WETLAND Conservation Corps and the LSU AgCenter are partnering with St. Bernard Parish 4-H program to plant bald cypress saplings near Verret, La. Bald cypress trees are a great asset to our wetlands because they can survive in a mix of fresh and salt water. They also are great for holding the land in place to prevent coastal erosion, and they act as a buffer from storm surge during hurricanes. With the planting of these trees, the parish would lose less land to erosion and would gain protection from storms. Furthermore, they would help shelter our oil and natural gas pipelines.

We will be caravanning from the Mc Donald’s in Meraux to the Verret Pump Station, or you can meet us at the pump station.

Where:
Mc Donald’s
4202 East Judge Perez Drive Meraux, La.
Time: 9:00 a.m.

Or:
Verret Pump Station
3780 Highway 46 Verret, La,
Near the intersection of La. Highway 46 and Fire Station Road
Time: 9:30 a.m.

From the pump station, we will be transporting the groups to the planting site via tractor trailer.

Water will be supplied.

What to Bring: Old clothes that can get dirty, long pants, close-toes shoes, gloves, sun protection, a snack and rubber boots (if available).

To make this event a success, we would like as many volunteers as possible.
