Give Back to New Orleans City Park for Christmas!
If you live near New Orleans, then you’ve likely been to City Park at least once in your life. City Park is the seventh most visited city park in the entire United States. City Park in New Orleans is one of the few public parks funded mostly by self-generated revenue and donations. The park offers a Botanical Garden, Amusement Park, Museum of Art and many other attractions. One of the best times to see City Park is during the Holiday Season when the park is lit up with lights for “Christmas in the Oaks.”
City Park has never been the same since Hurricane Katrina. Slowly, repairs have been made, but there are still many tasks to complete. Multiple projects in the park are requiring additional volunteer hours to complete before the end of the year.
This holiday season is a great time to give back, so come out to help the America’s WETLAND Conservation Corps at City Park in New Orleans on December 20, 2008.
Volunteers will be planting Spartina along the edges of a few lagoons in the park and planting at the Pelican Greenhouse. Also, if time permits, we will plant some Spartina along the mouth of Bayou St. John. Volunteers should arrive at the Pelican Greenhouse at 8 A.M (Pelican Greenhouse is #19 on map found at this link: http://neworleanscitypark.com/mapofpark.html). Volunteers need to bring gloves, boots and anything else needed to work in muddy conditions. Please plan ahead for adverse weather. Drinks will be available, but lunch will not be provided because the work should likely be completed by lunchtime.
No more than 30 volunteers are needed, so sign up fast.
