VOLUNTEER ANNOUNCEMENT!
Get involved and volunteer to help the America's Wetland Conservation Corps create wetland habitat in Lafitte, Louisiana, on September 8th!
Event: Lafitte Terrace Planting Location: Depart from C & M Marina 4932 Kenal Road, Lafitte (click for web map)
Date: Saturday, September 8th, 2007 Time: 8:30am
The America's Wetland Conservation Corps program is partnering with the BTNEP volunteer team to recruit volunteers to help plant marsh grass to create habitat and protect newly constructed wetland terraces. Terraces are designed to decrease the impact of wind and waves, reducing the rate of marsh loss by erosion. As a result, emergent vegetation can spread and begin populating large open areas. Water clarity typically improves due to reduced wave action; stimulating the growth of submerged aquatic vegetation. The resultant habitat is essential for waterfowl, reptiles, and a host of other wetland-dependent wildlife and fish species. Your effort will create important wetland habitat and ensure that the Lafitte terraces function as an asset to this ecological community.
