Golden Meadow Protection Levee Christmas Tree Project
The America's WETLAND Conservation Corps,
BNEP
and Le Reflections de Bayou
NEED YOUR HELP!
Location: Protection Levee next to the Catfish Lake Public Boat Launch in Golden Meadow
Date: Saturday, March 14, 2009
Time: 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p. m.
Protection levees are key factors in protecting people from storm surges. Lafourche Parish has been blessed with great levees protecting it from most certain devastation during tropical systems. However, one section of the levee has begun eroding. In an effort to keep further erosion from occurring, Lafourche Parish, in cooperation with Le Reflections de Bayou, has erected a Christmas tree crib on the marsh side of the levee. The bin must be replenished with used Christmas trees every year.
What will we do?
One group will be loading Christmas trees into 4-wheeler trailers near the boat launch. Another group will be off loading the trees and placing them in to the bin.
Things to bring:
Dress appropriately for the weather. I like to bring an extra set of clothes, bug spray, sun block, sunglasses, hat and a towel. (Remember, the weather is usually worse along the coast than in a city.)
What will be provided?
Refreshments, snacks and gloves. NO Lunch will be served
