Sweet Sorghum at Hill Farm Research Station July 18, 2008

Following a period with good growing conditions for the past couple of weeks, moisture stress conditions are beginning to affect sweet sorghum growth for the second time this growing season at the Hill Farm Research Station. (The first stress period was rather distinct but brief with no apparent lasting effects.)

Burning of tips of upper leaves of some plants is occurring. This is currently more distinct in the variety Topper than in the other varieties.

Plants on the right have responded to the stress conditions of decreasing moisture and intense heat with distinctly erect and curled upper leaves. This response is distinct even before mid-day only for the variety M81-E.
