The LSU AgCenter is committed to Louisiana’s future, and that means building the state’s economy and developing the skills of tomorrow’s leaders.
Goals
The LSU AgCenter’s Community Leadership and Economic Development program is designed to give interested communities greater access to the resources of the LSU AgCenter and to assist with:
• Develop more effective leaders through education and experience.
• Enhance community and economic development opportunities through unique partnerships with businesses, industries, associations and agencies.
• Develop advocates for community and economic development.
Key Components
Because every community is unique, each program curriculum must fit the needs of the community. Key components that may be included are:
• Communication and critical thinking.
• Understanding leadership styles.
• Working effectively with groups.
• Knowledge about local and state governments.
• Stakeholder identification.
• Identifying community and economic development issues.
• Organizing meetings with topic experts who can address identified community and economic development issues.
• Parliamentary procedure.
• Facilitating the meeting process.
• Working with other collaborative partners who might be interested in a specific community issue.
• Helping communities develop and implement strategic actions that result in quality of life and economic development improvements.
