Areas of Specialization/Research
75% Louisiana Agricultural Experiment Station. Conduct applied research on pest management strategies for control of pecan arthropod pests. My current research project is entitled "Improved Systems for Management of Economically-Important Arthropod Pests Attacking Pecan." The objectives of the project are to develop improved methods for monitoring the seasonal activity of pecan insect pests, such as pecan phylloxera and pecan nut casebearer; to continue to develop and improve upon the methods used for controlling pecan insect pests, such as pecan aphids, hickory shuckworm, pecan phylloxera, and pecan nut casebearer; and to work collaboratively with other pecan researchers to develop biological control systems for pecan insect pests, particularly nut curculio.
25% Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service. Work with commercial pecan growers and homeowners to provide them with the latest information on pecan arthropod pest management. Information is presented to clientele via meetings, trade publications, clinics and workshops, newsletters, e-mail, and the Pecan Research-Extension Station web site. I have been actively involved in educational outreach programs at local schools on topics dealing with the science of entomology. I also teach the section on general entomology for the Northwest Louisiana Master Gardener Program. |
