Areas of Specialization/Research
(1) Biodiesel from efficient strains of microalgae, and their extraction procedures (My proposed PhD thesis under the supervision of Dr. Chandra Theegala at the LSU College of Engineering, Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering).
(2) Trace-level and forensic determination of petroleum specific biomarkers (steranes and triterpanes) and heavy metals in sediments, water, crude oil and refined petroleum products, and organic waste/compost: chemical fingerprinting and environmental forensic studies. |
Professional Experience
Started working for LSU Ag Center, WA Callegari Environmental Center in November 2004. Job description as a laboratory manager include development of analytical procedures & field techniques for wide variety of matrices (sediments, water, compost manure, crude oil and refined petroleum products, oilfield produce water, drilling fluids, hurricane impacted well water and sewage). The most recent activities enlisted include Biodiesel process and QA/QC analyses, research/extension work for cost effective biodiesel production from waste vegetable oil or non-food crops.
Prior work experience included “Research Associate-5” for the Louisiana State University/Louisiana Oil Spill Coordinator’s Office, Office of the Governor, Louisiana conducting baseline sampling and analyses project for chemical and biological investigation of petroleum oil spill constituents in Coastal Louisiana and major Louisiana rivers. Areas of interest included fate, environmental forensics and source fingerprinting of petrochemical pollutants in coastal LA, major rivers and the Gulf of Mexico, QA/QC of analytical results, GIS application, spatial analysis, and geostatistical analysis. Also worked as a Grad Assistant LSU Department of Environmental Studies, SC&E on bioremediation of creosote contaminated Superfund Sites. |
Awards/Grants Recipient of 2003-Kuniko Fujisaki Outstanding Research Award in environmental toxicology at the School of the Coast & Environment, LSU, Baton Rouge, LA. |
