Education/Training

Ph.D. in Plant Pathology, 1974
Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Dissertation: Berggren, Jr., G. T. 1974. Studies on chemical control of cotton boll rot.

M.S. in Plant Pathology, 1971
Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Thesis: Berggren, Jr. G. T. 1971. Uptake location and relative amount of 14C-labeled Vitavax in cotton seedlings resulting from a Vitavax soil drench.
B.S. in Biology Education, 1969
Southeastern Louisiana University, Hammond, Louisiana
Areas of Specialization/Research
Administrative. Department Head and Professor of Plant Pathology and Crop Physiology, and Accountable Property Officer for Federal Surplus Excess Property Program.

Research interests: Plant Disease Management and Control.
Professional Experience
Research Contribution:
First identified Southern soybean stem canker in Louisiana, along with N. L. Horn, H. K. Whitam, and J. P. Snow.

Through collaborative efforts with other scientists (J. P. Snow, H. K. Whitam, and B. G. Harville) identified soybean cultivars most resistant to southern stem canker.

Identified soybean cultivars most resistant to red crown rot (in collaboration with D. K. Berner, B. G. Harville, and J. P. Snow).

With J. P. Snow and B. Lalitha, (Graduate Assistant) identified a toxin produced by the stem canker fungus.

Results of fungicides screening research demonstrated the utilization of single application of materials for control of foliar, pod and stem diseases, and the control of soybean aerial blight. This contributed significantly to the labeling of two materials for the management of diseases.
