  • D.V.M.: Oklahoma State University, College of Veterinary Medicine, 1970
  • Ph.D.: University of California Davis, 1974
Areas of Specialization/Research
Dr. Enright's research interests are focused on the immunological and inflammatory reactions of a variety of hosts to bacterial, protozoal, viral and helminth parasites. He is particularly interested in the innate defense systems of animals to these agents. Most recently he has been involved in the design, synthesis and elucidation of mechanisms of action of membrane disrupting peptides (MDPs) similar to inducible defense peptides of insects. These synthetic peptides exhibit a broad range of in vitro and in vivo biological activities. These MDPs have been modified by linking them to unique ligands to effectively treat prostatic, ovarian and mammary gland carcinomas. In addition, the peptides and the DNA encoding them are effective in the treatment of advanced mammary gland carcinomas in cats and dogs and in the disruption of reproduction in mice and dogs.
