Areas of Specialization/Research
Molecular approaches to food safety microbiology:
-
Developing rapid, sensitive, and specific molecular detection assays for foodborne pathogens
-
Conducting surveillance studies to characterize the contamination levels, genotypes, and antibiotic susceptibility profiles of these pathogens in various food products
-
Examining genetic characteristics that contribute to the survival of Campylobacter in foods and the development of antibiotic resistance.
Future Research Vision:
- Detection and typing methods for foodborne pathogens
- Molecular mechanism of antibiotic resistance in Campylobacter
- Interaction of E. coli O157:H7 with produce
- Risk assessment
