Education/Training

Ph.D., University of Maryland

Areas of Specialization/Research

Molecular approaches to food safety microbiology:

  • Developing rapid, sensitive, and specific molecular detection assays for foodborne pathogens
  • Conducting surveillance studies to characterize the contamination levels, genotypes, and antibiotic susceptibility profiles of these pathogens in various food products
  • Examining genetic characteristics that contribute to the survival of Campylobacter in foods and the development of antibiotic resistance.

Future Research Vision:

  • Detection and typing methods for foodborne pathogens
  • Molecular mechanism of antibiotic resistance in Campylobacter
  • Interaction of E. coli O157:H7 with produce
  • Risk assessment
