Football fields made safer for young athletes
Extension specialist Ron Strahan is making football fields safer for young athletes through his Field of Excellence program. Many are in deplorable conditions with compacted soil, weeds, uneven surfaces and poor turfgrass. Working with local extension agents and school administrators, he improves the soil and grass on these fields. So far, he’s completed projects at 10 schools. LSU football coast Les Miles has helped promoted Louisiana-grown turfgrass on athletic fields, including Tiger Stadium.
