The Office of Intellectual Property is responsible for a wide range of activities involving AgCenter faculty research. The office follows each invention from cradle to grave, be it docketing new invention disclosures or guiding patenting activities through outside legal counsel. The office is ultimately responsible for everything involving the protection and commercialization of university research.
Lyda Gatewood is director of the Offices of Intellectual Property and Sponsored Programs. She holds a B.S. in biology from Antioch College and a master's in public health from Tulane University. Ms. Gatewood has received several research grants for work in this country and abroad and has co-authored several publications. She has worked in a variety of laboratory settings, both academic and commercial. Before coming to the AgCenter, she was director of State Programs at the Louisiana Board of Regents where she was an integral part of the Board’s multi-million dollar Education Support Fund grants programs. She came to the AgCenter in 1997.
Judy Lithgoe has served more than 20 years with LSU campuses, joining the AgCenter Office of Intellectual Property in June 2001 where she serves as senior license associate. Upon graduation from LSU, Judy continued her education and passed the CPA examination in 1992. Judy is responsible for oversight of royalty audits—both informal and formal--and negotiation of Confidentiality Agreements, Material Transfer Agreements and License and Royalty Agreements. She is responsible for compliance issues on all PM-67 disclosures relating to AgCenter intellectual property and provides oversight of all active licenses and related agreements.
