UNDERGRADUATE
International applicants to undergraduate programs automatically apply for LSU tuition awards by sending in a completed application for admission by the January 1st (Fall) or October 1st (Spring) deadline. Awards given to international students are limited and are therefore highly competitive. Applications received after this date may be considered, but priority is given to applications received by the deadline.
Please note: All LSU scholarships for international students are merit-based; LSU does not offer need-based scholarships to international students.
1. Golden Oaks Awards (Full Tuition and Nonresident Fee Award Scholarships for Undergraduate Nonresidents)
To be eligible for this award, an entering freshman applicant must have a high grade point average from a secondary school, may have National Merit quality scores on the SAT, ACT (not required but HIGHLY recommended for scholarship consideration) or a comparable indicator of excellence and must be entering a university for the first time and be admissible to an LSU degree program. Applicants are considered through their application for admission. For additional award information, contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and Student Aid. You can find their contact information at their website: www.lsu.edu/financialaid.
2. Tiger Scholars (Partial Award Scholarships for Undergraduate Nonresidents)
Undergraduate applicants (entering freshmen or university transfers) to LSU may be considered for nonresident fee awards through their application for admission. Applicants must have a high grade-point average and competitive academic records, and be admissible to an LSU degree program. The award will be applied to non-resident fees, and award amounts vary based on academic credentials and standardized test scores. For additional award information, contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and Student Aid. You can find their contact information at their website: www.lsu.edu/financialaid.
3. International Student Undergraduate Nonresident Honor Award
Currently enrolled undergraduate international students who have completed at least 30 classroom credit hours at LSU with an overall grade point average of at least 3.5 on a 4 point system and demonstrate financial need may be considered for a nonresident tuition award. The award is limited to 6 semesters and is NOT valid during summer sessions. The award is equivalent to the amount of non-resident fees. This award does not cover University fees.
4. Bengal Legacy Scholarships (Scholarship for Nonresident Children of LSU Graduates)
A child (natural birth, adopted, step-child if supported by step-parent) of an LSU graduate whose residence is outside of Louisiana is eligible for a reduction of the nonresident fee upon admission to LSU, either as a new or transfer student. For additional award information and the application for this award, refer contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and Student Aid. You can find their contact information at their website: www.lsu.edu/financialaid.
A student may receive only one of the above awards at any one time. Since LSU does not have a scholarship that covers all expenses for an academic year, all international F-1 students must provide a completed Affidavit of Support form for at least the balance between the amount of the award and the total estimated expenses. (For the most current estimated expenses, please visit http://www.oip.lsu.edu/iso/Dates%20and%20costs.htm.) Please note: The International Services Office cannot process your non-immigrant documentation without this information.
GRADUATE
-
Graduate Assistantships/Fellowships
More than 2,000 teaching, research, and service assistantships are awarded annually. All communication regarding graduate assistantships should be directed to the chairperson of the appropriate department. Applications and supporting credentials are accepted at all times, but priority for graduate assistantships beginning in the fall will be given to applicants who submit their materials by January 25th. A graduate assistantship is intended to be supportive of the student's educational experience by being related to the graduate program in which the student is enrolled. Only graduate students admitted to an academic degree program and with acceptable academic records may be appointed to graduate assistantships. The values of these assistantships vary, but always include a nonresident tuition waiver (for the most current nonresident fees, see the Office of Budget and Planning’s website at http://www.bgtplan.lsu.edu/fees.htm) and a possible resident tuition wavier as well depending on the assistantship offer. The award does not cover University fees.
