Louisiana Century Farm Program

What is the Louisiana Century Farm Program?

The Louisiana Century Farm Program recognizes and honors Louisiana’s farmers, ranchers and forestry landowners who have owned family farm land for 100 years or more. We are honoring the contributions to our state’s rich agricultural heritage while encouraging the preservation and commitment to farm families. We are recognizing the efforts of these family farms that are the lifeblood of our livelihoods.

The Louisiana Century Farm Program is Sponsored by:
LSU AgCenter
Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry
Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation
Louisiana Land Bank

What are the requirements to be a part of this program?

1. Has the farm been in your family continuously for at least 100 years?

2. Does the farm have at least 20 acres of the original founder’s land?

3. Is at least one owner a resident of Louisiana?

4. Does the farm produce at least $1000 in farming income annually?

*Tree farms are exceptions to this requirement.

If you answered yes to each of these questions, then your farm is eligible to submit an application to be a Louisiana Century Farm.

What is the application process?

Completely fill out the application, attach the required documents, and have signature witnessed and documented by a Notary Public. These documents will then be reviewed and verified by the application committee. Applications will be accepted August 1, 2015– December 31, 2015. Once the application has been reviewed and verified, a representative from the Louisiana Department of Agriculture & Forestry will contact you.

Why should I sign up?

You should fill out an application to be a part of the Louisiana Century Farm Program to distinguish your farm and your families’ legacy and your farms historical relevance to your local area.

Is there any cost to sign up?

There is no cost to sign up for the Louisiana Century Farm Program and no money will be given to award recipients.
