Effective Supervision

The Effective Supervision course presents concepts, strategies and models that will direct supervisors toward the development and utilization of supervising principles and practices. This will assist them in supervising in a way that allows them to efficiently and effectively accomplish the AgCenter mission and best utilize their staff resources.

There are several different roles that supervisors may have. Every supervisor has the opportunity or necessity of wearing several different hats. Some of these include:
        • Counselor
        • Individual
        • Manager
        • Communicator
        • Coach
        • Monitor
        • Leader
        • Teacher
        • Innovator
        • Role Model

These roles encompass managerial, ethical, legal, leadership and creative aspects of the supervisor’s job. The course instruction and discussion will include such topics as: the role of the supervisor, effective supervisory practices, management principles, motivation, communication, leadership styles, personality types, problem area, and the supervisee perspective.

The training is scheduled for Thursday, January 28, 2010, and is being offered through distance education.
