(This is a non-tenure track grant-funded position. Continuation will be dependent on funding, job performance, and continued need for the appointment.)

WORK LOCATION: Northeast Research Station, Louisiana State University Agricultural Center, St. Joseph, Louisiana

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The incumbent will provide support for the senior scientist conducting entomology research with agronomic crops and sweet potatoes at the Northeast Research Station as well as off-station research plots in northeast Louisiana. The successful candidate will be expected to operate and maintain various types of research equipment, to use computers for data management and statistical analysis, and to utilize computers and graphics software for preparation of presentations for the project leader. Responsibilities will include calibrating, adjusting and operating tillage implements, cultivators, pesticide application equipment, planters, and harvesting equipment. Experience with variable rate application equipment, GIS technologies, and GIS software is desirable. Routine duties will include plot establishment and maintenance, calibration of pesticide applicators, application of pesticides, data collection and analysis and preparation of reports. In addition, the incumbent will have responsibility for supervising other support personnel including student workers.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Entomology, Plant Science, Experimental Statistics, General Agriculture, or other agriculture-related field of study is preferred. Farming and/or research experience is highly desirable. Candidates with non-agricultural degrees may be considered depending upon farming and/or research experience.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The LSU AgCenter has an attractive benefits package with a wide variety of benefit options.
