Critical Illness Supplement

The AIG Group Critical Illness Supplemental Medical Benefit is a plan which can provide financial relief when individuals are diagnosed with particular critical illnesses, which include the following:
  • Heart Attack
  • Stroke
  • Organ Transplant
  • End Stage Kidney (Renal) Failure
  • Invasive Cancer
  • In Situ Cancer
  • Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery


Plan Overview

  • A lump-sum benefit ranging from $5,000 to $50,000 is paid directly to the employee following the diagnosis of one of the covered illnesses.
  • Employees who elect coverage within the first thirty days of employment are guaranteed up to $10,000 of coverage without medical underwriting.
  • Benefit amounts above $10,000 require medical underwriting.
  • A spouse is eligible for a minimum of $5,000 of coverage, up to one-half of the employee amount, or a maximum benefit of $25,000 with medical underwriting.
  • Each eligible dependent child is covered at 10% of the employee amount at no additional charge.
  • Rates cannot be increased due to change in health or an individual claim.
  • Annual health screening benefits are included.
  • Coverage is portable (take the coverage with you if you leave the LSU System).
