Each year the 4-H program sponsors the Louisiana Outdoor Science and Technology (LOST) Camp for 7th and 8th graders at Camp Grant Walker. The SET board serves as track leaders and event planners for this week long summer camp. This year was another Emmy winning year with the television theme. Campers spent a week at camp learning about Science, Engineering, and Technology while having a great time.
This year SET board ran four of the LOST camp tracks. Rachel Dickson was the head of videography. Each day campers made and edited a mini film after the expert teaching of Rachel. Since the television show theme for the track was ICarly, one group each day made a random dancing video. Ray Seibbenkittel and Marybeth Bourque worked together to put on a forensic science/senses track. In senses, they "Dare Deviled" it out and used their senses to explore the world around them. Forensics, a.k.a. "CSI Grant Walker", solved the murder crime scene each day. Another SET led track was astronomy and astrology/physics which was led by Samantha Ronkartz and Devani Credeur. In astronomy, campers made their own planets. How cool is that? Everyone floated in physics on hovercrafts having a blast. The last track led by set was Myth busters/engineering track. In Mythbusters, campers experimented with duct tape and hangers to make a boat that could support a person. In engineering, "Phineas and Ferb", campers built a rube Goldberg machine.
Along with tracks, SET board rocked out the television theme. Each evening campers were split into groups to compete in a group challenge. The group challenges were over/under, and a scavenger hunt. Also, every night there was a dance, movie, swimming, and game station. At the game station, there was a tournament featuring a different game each night. In camp tradition, on Thursday there was a cookout and talent show. This year the talent ranged from guitar to juggling to singing. It was a treat for all.
The last night campers sat in the Greek theater while the LOST sign was lit on fire. They reminisced about their camp memories and the new friends they will have going into the future.
