4-H Jr. Leadership Conference (JLC) will take place at 4-H Grant Walker Educational Center on March 13 - 15, 2009. The conference is open to all Junior Leaders 14 years and older. Those who wish to participate need to register through their parish 4-H agent by January 16, 2009.
The purpose of the JLC is to increase the leadership skills and knowledge of youth across Louisiana. The conference features a variety of workshops focused on leadership development, communication, teamwork, service-learning, youth-adult partnerships and time management.
A key element of the JLC is youth-driven focus. Youth decide what's offered, preside over the sessions and teach all the educational workshops. At JLC, youth participants aren't only learning about leadership, they are practicing leadership.

SET:
Get "SET for the future" with the science, engineering, and technology track at JLC. We will teach and explore efficient keyboard use and computer technology, the importance of Louisiana Wetlands and a new area of science -- nano technology. The track will be hands-on, and there will be multiple activities planned for the delegates to participate in.
CITIZENSHIP:
Lately, our country has been buzzing with the high-energy hype of government and politics. 4-H will channel that energy and use it to engage participants in the upcoming JLC track "Citizens of the Universe." Governing your own galaxy colony, space jeopardy, and exploring ways to get involved now in real life civics are just a few of the missions for those who choose to educate themselves and their community about the power of informed youth in government policy.
CAMP COUNSELOR TRAINING:
The camp counselor role is very important in the 4-H program. Once prepared to serve in this important leadership role, you will have many opportunities ranging from 4-H camp counselor, day counselor, field trip counselor to presenting educational workshops be available. Through this training you will learn and develop individually and in turn help teach and guide others. A good teen leader or counselor is an asset of the 4-H Youth Development program. This program is designed to help with the leadership development you need to serve in the role of camp counselors.
HEALTH ROCKS!:
Learn skills such as decision making, critical thinking and stress management. The program will also teach teens how to bring youth and adults together as partners in developing community strategies that prepare young people to make health lifestyle choices. This track will be interactive and fun. In addition, all activities are hands-on and team-oriented.
