State Food & Fitness Camp Information

The Annual State 4-H Food & Fitness Camp is set for February 14-15, 2009, at Grant Walker 4-H Educational Center in Pollock. And your parish is invited to send a delegation!!

Food & Fitness Camp is always an awesome experience for everyone involved. We hope you will identify 4-H’ers in your parish who want to learn more about food and fitness in a friendly setting. Camp is planned and conducted by the State 4-H Food & Fitness Board members and their advisors.

The Food & Fitness Camp theme is “Holidays the Healthy Way”!

Camp Schedule:

The camp kicks off on Saturday, February 14, at 11:00 a.m. and concludes at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, February 15. Campers will be busy day and night with the exciting agendas. Please note the change in arrival time from previous years. The camp will NOT be available for housing on Friday night for any camper.

Camper & Volunteer Leader Eligibility

Each parish has the opportunity to send a team of four 4-H campers (9-12 years old) and one to two leaders (project leader, junior leader, parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, etc.) for Food & Fitness Camp. The adult volunteer MUST BE OVERNIGHT CHAPERONE-TRAINED BY YOUR PARISH and the teen volunteer (jr. leader) MUST BE CAMP COUNSELOR TRAINED. All training must be completed by Jan. 31. The total number of people a parish may send is six.

This camp IS open to boys, and we would love to see an increase in the number of boys who attend. (But you will need an adult male if you send boys!) You CAN send 2 adult leaders if you send campers of both genders. So, you must send a male adult if you send a boy and an adult female if you send a girl.

**NOTE  - - Current Food & Fitness Board members will not be able to serve as junior leaders for parish campers because they will be busy conducting the camp program and will have responsibilities to the whole group.

The adult or teen leaders must agree to assist the parish youngsters with the weekend project and to later assist with a teaching activity in the parish within the next 12 months. Each camp participant will receive curriculum materials to be able to do so. One of the major objectives of camp is to expand our 4-H efforts of the 4-H Healthy Living initiative through these trained youth/leader teams.

Registration Form, Optional Tee Shirt Order, Fees, Deadline

Camp participants (4-H’ers, adult leaders) are responsible for camp fees to cover lodging, meals and other camp-related expenses. *Board members will receive separate information concerning their fees & responsibilities.

• $42/person for campers and adult leaders. This fee includes one-night lodging, 3 meals, snacks, camp supplies and curriculum materials.

• $10 for a camp tee shirt (this is optional). The shirt must be pre-ordered for those who want one. No extra shirts will be available at the camp.

WE NEED HEALTH FORMS, REGISTRATION FORMS, TEE-SHIRT ORDERS AND CHECKS for each camper and adult/jr. volunteer leader attending by the deadline. All documents should be sent to Lois Brister, Rapides 4-H, no later than Wednesday, January 21, 2009, at the mailing addresses on the registration forms. Please note that camp registrations/tee shirt orders will NOT be accepted after the deadline date. Any cancelations after February 1, 2009, will result in forfeiture of camp fees. Tee shirt orders are NOT refundable. (Supplies will be purchased and orders made prior to that date based upon the number of participants.)

**Please do NOT send registration forms/tee shirt orders without fees!

We are looking forward to an exciting camp and encourage your parish to send a delegation. If you have questions, please contact any of the Food & Fitness Board advisors:
