Every year during 4-H University, some students choose not to compete but rather attend educational sessions called Clover College. This year there were ten Clover College sessions. The 4-H’ers in Make Your Health Rock! homed in on their healthy critical-thinking skills and decision-making skills in this Clover College session. They learned stress management and goal setting to help them resist risky behaviors. Furthermore, 4-H’ers learned about the consequences of youth tobacco, alcohol and drug use.
As a result of participating in this Clover College, students indicated the following on the evaluation:
82% understand concepts related to health promotion and disease prevention to enhance overall health.
86% understand the influences and health consequences of tobacco, drug and alcohol use.
When students were asked how they plan to use the knowledge gained from the track, they said the following:
“Do a presentation to show the students at my school the importance of not using drugs.”
“Think before I make decisions and let other people know to do that, too.”
“I plan on telling my friends about it.”
