Have you ever watched CSI or any other detective show? The
4-H'ers who attended the Forensics Clover College at the 2011 4-H University had the opportunity to experience it. Students used their investigative and problem-solving skills to analyze a mock crime scene and solve a crime. They observed, gathered, and analyzed physical evidence to solve a mystery. Other highlights of the session included touring the local morgue and learning about forensic anthropology at LSU.
As a result of participating in this Clover College, students indicated the following:
100% Have a greater understanding of the careers in forensics.
97% Increased their knowledge of forensic procedures.
97% Understand the relationship between different agencies that are at work on a crime scene.
97% Have a better understanding of how the Baton Rouge Crime Scene Investigation processes a crime scene.
When students were asked "What do you plan on doing with the information and knowledge gained from this year's "Forensics" track?" they answered the following:
“I plan on sharing the information with others and using the knowledge I’ve gained for everyday life.”
“I might be considering a career in forensics.”
“I plan on telling everyone that I know about what I learned and it was a great experience.”
“I plan on telling all my friends about it and getting them involved in 4-H.”
Based on the evaluation results, the Forensics Clover college was a huge success!
