Volunteer Conference

2012-2013 Louisiana 4-H Volunteer Conference

Join 4-H volunteers from across Louisiana for fellowship, networking, educational workshops and funshops. Hear from great motivational speakers, learn about new programs and hear from leaders of successful programs.

The Louisiana 4-H Youth and Family Development Volunteer Conference will be held May 30-June 1, 2013. The conference will offer training, a chance to meet volunteers from around the state, idea sharing, program exhibits, opportunities for CEUs and Master Volunteer Program sessions. The conference will be hosted by the LSU AgCenter 4-H Youth and Family Development Department and the Louisiana 4-H Volunteer Leaders Association.

Pre-Conference Workshop Descriptions

Shooting Sports Level 1 Training - Register to become a certified level 1 shooting sports instructor. Disciplines offered will be Archery and Rifle.

  • A twelve-hour course will be taught to adults 21 and older (18 years old for archery) in one of the disciplines circled above. You must attend the full 12-hour course to be certified. Please note your second choice of disciplines above.
  • Class will start at 8:00 a.m. and end around 8:00 p.m. for both disciplines. Lunch and snacks will be provided.
  • Registration form must be sent in with conference registration.
  • To become an instructor you cannot be convicted of any felonies or wildlife violations in the past 5 years. Background checks will be preformed before you teach 4-H youth.
  • There will be no cost for this workshop.

Master Volunteer Training - The Louisiana 4-H Master Volunteer Program is designed to assist volunteers in the development of specialized skills as 4-H volunteers by participating in quality training experiences, processing learning experiences, conducting service activities/projects, and developing a Master Volunteer ACE portfolio. This training will offer many of the classes needed for Bronze/Silver level certification. Students will also have an opportunity to learn how to take some courses online.

Take Your Best Shot!’—Building a Shooting Sports Program
Presenter: Dana Leger

HELP! My child is obsessed with guns—what do I do? Get involved with a Shooting Sports Program. In this presentation you will learn how to get a shooting sports program started and maintain from year to year. Listen to our story of what makes it work. Also, hear about the many resources that we have tapped. Sample documents will be shared.

Family Nutrition Night
Presenter: Terri Crawford, Regional 4-H Coordinator

Family Nutrition Night is a fun, innovative way to bring together families and provide them with an educational opportunity to learn about nutrition and healthy lifestyles. The session will give participants a taste of the interactive experiences that make up a Family Nutrition Night event and train them to serve as volunteers for an event.

Social Media
Presenter: Tina Goebel, Regional 4-H Coordinator

What is Social Media? Social media is a phrase being tossed around a lot these days, but it can sometimes be difficult to answer the question of what is social media. This educational session will guide you through social media. Social media, on the other hand, is a two-way street that gives you the ability to communicate too learn how.

Additional sessions will include courses from the Master Volunteer Program including Risk Management 1 and 2, Service-Learning and others.

Tour

Alexandria Zoo - Join fellow volunteers for a visit to the beautiful Alexandria Zoo. Admission is $7.50 for adults and will be payable at the door.

Transportation will be provided for the tour. Tours are expected to end around 2:30 p.m.
