Louisiana 4-H offers members the opportunity to participate in robotic programs through out the year. Working with robotics promotes essential workplace skills in youth ages 9-18. Members explore teamwork, collaboration and leadership while learning to appreciate science and technology. Campers built and programmed robots at the 2008 L.O.S.T. camp. They ended the day by designing an obstacle course for their robots.
This nationwide effort teaches analytical, logical and critical thinking while engaging young people in fun activities. The goal is to cultivate a new crop of astronomers, biologists, physicists, engineers and other scientists.
Louisiana 4-H provides LEGO Mindstorms NXT robotic kits that parishes can check out for local programs. If you are interested in starting a local 4-H robotics club, please contact your local parish agent.
4-H robotics club members develop valuable skills in:
- Computer Programming
- Decision Making
In addition to life skills, robotics provides an opportunity to pursue the new 4-H science, engineering and technology (SET) mission mandate. 4-H SET’s goal is to increase youth interest in these growing fields behind the slogan, “One Million New Scientists. One Million New Ideas.”
