The purpose of the WPIIT is to help create for youth a variety of options for improving educational and skill competencies and for making effective connections to employers.
The WPIIT promotes the linkage between academic and occupational learning and opportunities related to career planning, effective interview techniques, dressing for success, smart money management and business etiquette.
The WPIIT works to help youth develop a positive attitude, set goals, build confidence and acquire skills and competencies needed to get and keep a job by:
- conducting activities that create options for youth to participate in workforce preparation workshops and career fairs and thereby help them build competency in the skills employers consistently report as desired in prospective employees.
- placing youth in a more competitive position by providing them with substantial knowledge, as well as more advanced workplace skills needed in today’s workplace.
- improving outreach to partnering youth-serving agencies and groups that has expanded the presence of employers, parents, youth leaders and community supporters in planning and implementation of parish-level workforce preparation events.
