2008 Concordia Parish Service Learning Project

Concordia

4-H Can Fight Hunger

The Concordia Parish 4-H Club participated in the 4-H CAN Fight Hunger Campaign. There were 435 people involved and 10 hours of service engaged in. Around 370 people were served as a result of this project. Concordia 4-H collected 1,259 pounds of food. Some agencies or organizations which benefited from this service were Feed the Hungry, Stew Pot, local churches, needy families and the elderly. The 4-H CAN Fight Hunger Campaign was announced in the 4-H newsletters, and each club was encouraged to participate in the campaign. Organization leaders set up boxes at schools for the collection of food. Leaders promoted the drive and reported weights to the 4-H office. Youth learned how important it is to help others. The 4-H youth who participate in this project each year gain a greater understanding of how important it is to give back to the community. It is a wonderful way to allow all the youth in the clubs to feel a part by bringing a few cans of food. It helps our youth to realize there are students their age that may not have a meal without help.
