Louisiana 4-H sprouted roots in the early 1900’s from agricultural clubs for boys and domestic clubs for girls.  With guidance from caring adult experts, the youth were eager to learn new and better ways to farm, raise animals, preserve food, and improve home environments.  As technology and social norms changed over time, more projects were offered, club structures changed, and new programs developed.  Throughout the years, however, a common thread remained; giving youth hands-on learning experiences in a group setting to foster leadership, independence, generous spirits, and mastery of life skills.

Louisiana 4-H Timeline
Since 1908, Louisiana 4-H has engaged youth in practical hands-on learning experiences that instill values and teach life skills. As technology and social norms changed, so did 4-H projects, programs, and camps.
