How to Create Your own Hummingbird Feeder

Hummingbird by Igor Kamalov

Using a small milk carton:

Poke a hole in the upper section of the cleaned carton; make the hole at least large enough for a big wooden match stick to pass through. Afterwards, you can begin decorating your feeder.

  • 3 dimensional paper flowers from red paper or tissue
  • thick red ribbons to hang down from below or red paper fringe
  • pasted on pictures such as hummingbirds, flowers, etc
  • Red paper chains
  • Paint some flowers on the sides
  • use colorful pipe cleaners to hang the feeder
Using a small bottle:

You may use any tiny bottle with a small mouth as a hummingbird feeder. Suggestions: vanilla bottle, medicine bottle.

Tie a bright red ribbon around the mouth of the bottle and hang it from a branch with colorful pipe cleaners.

The Syrup:

Mix one part of regular white cane sugar with four parts of regular tap water and pour into feeder.
