Youth from across Louisiana are preparing to compete in the 77th annual LSU AgCenter Livestock Show next month at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales. LSU AgCenter officials say they expect more than 2,000 4-H and FFA exhibitors to bring about 1,500 breeding animals, 1,600 market animals, 180 pens of broilers and 700 exhibition birds to the competition on Feb. 11-18. The LSU AgCenter and the Tangipahoa Master Gardeners are sponsoring their annual camellia garden stroll. “Participants will stroll through a collection of over 500 Camellia japonicas and sasanquas planted from the late 1930s to the early 1950s,” said Sandra Benjamin, LSU AgCenter county agent. There also will be a camellia plant sale held in conjunction with the garden stroll. “This is a fine old garden,” said Regina Bracy, resident coordinator at the station. “This garden is one of 41 prestigious camellia gardens included in the American Camellia Society’s Camellia Trail.” Admission to the event is free.
