A free 1-hour Window & Door Protection mini-seminar will be held at the Rebuilding Information Station from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 7, on the University of New Orleans campus.
Participants will learn how to protect windows and doors from breaking or blowing in during wind storms and hurricanes.
“Keeping high winds out of the house helps keep the roof from blowing off,” said David Moore of the LSU AgCenter who will be teaching the seminar.
The “Window & Door Protection” mini-seminar includes information on how to help homeowners decide what type of protection is best for their home. It will include guidelines for selecting window and door protection by installing temporary and/or permanent storm shutters and storm panels.
The benefits of different materials, such as plastics, aluminum, wood, and steel, also will be discussed, as well as proper installation instructions for the do-it-yourself homeowner.

The Rebuilding Information Station is a collaborative effort between the LSU AgCenter, UNO-CHART (Center for Hazard Assessment, Response and Technology), and the Tulane City Center. It provides a “One Stop Shop” for homeowners looking for information on how to rebuild their homes safer and stronger.
Community educators from the LSU AgCenter and UNO are on-hand to assist homeowners in making informed decisions about rebuilding. Information on elevation, energy efficiency, sources of funding, hiring contractors and flood insurance is available.
The Rebuilding Information Station is located in Suite103 of the UNO Research and Technology Park building, which houses the Lindy C. Boggs International Conference Center on Lakeshore Drive.
