Why Weight for Summer?

Childhood obesity is a growing problem in our country, and Calcasieu 4-H wants to help do something to correct this problem right here at home.  This summer, we’ll be offering “Why Weight for Summer?”  for those interested in maintaining healthy weight now and throughout your life.  We’ll learn a little about nutrition, maintaining healthy weight, and exercise in a fun environment with hands on activities, speakers and field trips. 

“Why Weight for Summer?” will begin with an enrollment meeting on Monday, May 25 at 6:00 p.m. and meet every two weeks throughout the summer.  If you’d like to improve your eating and exercise habits, contact Ms. Helen (hpage@agcenter.lsu.edu) for more information.

Swimming, Canoeing, Archery, Volleyball, Basketball, Softball, Kickball, Ping Pong, Parachute Games, Line Dancing, Arts & Crafts & More... Many 4th, 5th and 6th grade boys and girls participate in 4-H Camp Grant Walker. The camp is held at the LSU AgCenter’s Grant Walker 4-H Educational Center, an 80-acre campsite located near Pollock, LA, on Highway 8 about 15 miles northeast of Alexandria. Operation: Military Kids-- Survivor Camp

For kids entering their Freshman year of high school, to kids entering their Freshman year of college who have loved ones in the military and are in some stage of deployment. Kids at this camp will learn survival skills and have fun.

High School Financial Planning Program training

"Train the Trainer" program designed to teach participants how to use the NEFE, High School Financial Planning Program to teach teens how to manage their money effectively; helping to insure finacial security and success. There is no charge for the trainging, teacher manual, and/nor student workbooks.
This is super material and a must for anyone working with teens.

3rd Louisiana Natural Resources Symposium

The LSU AgCenter will be hosting the third Louisiana Natural Resources Symposium on July 16-17, 2009 at the Lod Cook Conference Center and Hotel on the campus of Louisiana State University. The theme of the symposium is bioenergy opportunities for Louisiana. The registration brochure and other information is available at www.lsuagcenter.com/lnrs for easy registration. The 2009 symposium will feature papers from leading international experts from universities, federal and state agencies, private industry, forestry consultants, covering issues related to forest fragmentation. The target audience includes land managers, foresters, land owners, entrepreneurs, academicians, and those interested in this emerging opportunity. A comprehensive and professional proceedings will be available to all registrants. This program will qualify for continuing education credit from the Louisiana Logging Council and the Society of American Foresters. Lincoln Parish 4-H Club Marsh Maneuvers

 All high school students you have the chance to participate in an adventure of a lifetime. It’s call marsh maneuvers and it’s a weeklong adventure on the Gulf Coast that will be this summer July 20-24, 2009. Spend time fishing, crabbing, cast netting, water chemistry testing, seining, wildlife observation, seafood processing, boating, policy debates and more. We can only send 4 high school students. If you are interested in participating let us know. Lincoln Parish only gets this opportunity to send 4-H members to Marsh Maneuvers once every 4 years, so you might not get this chance again before you graduate.
