Louisiana Hunting Team
Pictures from L to R are John Lejuene, Sulphur; Quentin Givens, St Tammany; Eric Smith, Sulphur; Dakota Jenkins, St Tammany; Charlene Smith, Coach from Sulphur
Eric Smith and John Lejeune from Calcasieu 4-H represented Louisiana at the 2008 National Shooting Sports Contest in Grand Island, Nebraska, June 24-29th.  They, along with two other 4-H'ers from Louisiana competed in the Hunting Contest which is the most grueling 4 day competition at the National Contest.  They have to show skills in many different events such as archery, shotgun, rifle, muzzleloader, wildlife identification, wildlife management and hunting ethics.  Eric Smith was also named overall highpoint winner in the contest which had over 60 4-H'ers from around the United States.  This is the first time a team from Louisiana has ever won first and also had an individual win top honors.  Charlene Smith was the coach for the team and her diligence in training the team was one of the reasons for the great success.
