"Learn to be proficient in beef cattle management" is what specialists with the LSU AgCenter will provide beef producers who attend the Master Cattleman Classes offered March 5th through May 7th at the Caldwell Parish Library in Columbia, Louisiana. Classes will be held every Monday night beginning at 6:00 p.m. and conclude at 9:00 p.m. Classes will include pasture agronomy, pasture weeds, beef cattle nutrition, reproduction, breeding and selection, animal health, cattle handling, economics and marketing, and end product. These classes are designed to educate the beef producer from "Pasture to Plate". Producers will learn basic knowledge and the latest research on topics including ways to improve production efficiency, knowledge to implement best management practices, understanding the importance and care of natural resources and animal well-being and become Beef Quality Assurance certified. The registration fee is $125 and includes the curriculum, evening meal, Louisiana Master Cattleman metal farm sign and class handouts. The deadline to register is Monday, Feb. 26.
