Assumption Parish is situated in the serene bayou country in the south-central portion of Louisiana. It is an irregular-shaped parish and is located about 30 miles south from Baton Rouge and 60 miles west of New Orleans. Major industries include: fabrication, sugar, food products, fishing, agriculture. The Madewood Arts Festival, held in the spring at Madewood Plantation, features lectures, exhibits, art shows, ballet, and concerts.
