Welcome to the Family, Child, and Consumer Sciences Division in the School of Human Ecology at Louisiana State University. Our mission is helping individuals and families thrive in a changing world through research, teaching, and extension. At the undergraduate level, we offer a B.S. degree with concentrations in Child & Family Studies (CFS) and Early Childhood Administration and Leadership (ECAL). A collaborative program in Early Childhood Education: PreK-3 Teacher Certification is offered through the College of Education.
At the graduate level, we offer a M.S. and Ph.D. with concentrations in Family, Child, and Consumer Sciences and Early Childhood Education. The outreach efforts through the cooperative extension service provide educational opportunities for child care workers, parents, employees and others.
Several core areas cut across the research, teaching, and extension programs in FCCS: family stress and coping, family relationships, family financial security, parenting, and developmentally appropriate practices. Other research and multidisciplinary extension initiatives build upon and support these major areas.
FCCS graduates often go on to grad school for their MSW or continue in their chosen field in preparation for a university career. Other job opportunities include government agencies or nonprofits working with families and children, childcare facilities, the cooperative extension service as 4-H or FCS agents or children’s ministry programs.
Our faculty is committed to providing the best experience possible for all students whether in the classroom or across the state. We invite you to visit with us if you are considering a career in this area.
