Over the last several months AWCC members Ethan Graves and Alicia Scallan have been working with volunteers from Franklin High School and Mt. Herman School in Washington Parish to build bluebird and wood duck boxes. These boxes later will be installed in wetland habitats in 20 state parks across Louisiana.

On July 14, 2009, the AWCC members and volunteers working at Mt. Herman School were able to present Governor Bobby Jindal with a bluebird box and a wood duck box while he was hosting a town hall meeting. Governor Jindal expressed his support for the project and promised to come help install the boxes when the dates are set!

Wood duck boxes and bluebird boxes provide habitat for nesting birds. Hurricane damage to trees has reduced the birds' natural nesting habitats.

Thank you to Governor Jindal for his support of our project.
