Red Sprangletop (Leptochloa filiformis)

single panicle of red sprangletop
The extremely small spikelets and very fine spikelets are characteristic of red sprangletop, which does not always show the reddish color from which its common name is derived.

collar of red sprangletop
The reddish color often associated with red sprangletop can be seen on the leaf sheath. The fine pubescence or hairs and the long membraneous ligule are less obvious.
