Amazon Sprangletop is one of the more common sprangletop species in rice fields. It is especially prevalent in south Louisiana. The familiar whitish heads sticking up above the rice canopy are characteristic of Amazon Sprangletop. The conical shape and erect panicles of Amazon Sprangletop give rise to the synonym Tighthead Sprangletop.
