Amaurochrous dubius (formerly called Black Rice Bugs)

injury symptoms of black rice bug
The presence of dead or dying leaves, usually lower leaves, in otherwise healthy rice may indicate the presence of these bugs.

adult black rice bugs
Adults are related to the more traditional stink bugs as evidence by their odor when disturbed. The discolored leaf has been fed on by them.

immature black rice bugs
These bugs are sometimes called turtle bugs. Both nymphs and adults cause damage by feeding with their piercing mouthparts. Neither the term Black Rice Bug nor Turtle Bug is the correct common name for this insect.
