County Agent Jimmy Flanagan viewing a plot of sweet sorghum that had an excessive amount of annual weeds. This particular plot had received no fertilizer nitrogen; therefore, the plants were not able to compete with the weeds in spite of having been sprayed with a pre-emergence chemical.

Drop nozzles are being used to post-direct a weed control chemical to control annual grasses. A significant production concern for sweet sorghum is the lack of herbicide options for weed control. The chemical weed control industry has viewed sweet sorghum as a minor crop and, therefore, has not pursued the labeling of chemicals as aggressively as for other crops.
