Experience
The new Global Studies Residential College opened Fall 2007, and is a small international community that will extend your horizon and offer you varied advantages and opportunities.
Features
The Global Studies Residential College will be open to all students interested in global issues, no matter what their major. This value-added program will complement and enrich students’ declared academic majors.
- The Global Studies Residential College offers students contact with persons at LSU, in the community, and beyond who are engaged in global activities.
- Residential activities encourage cultural exchange and help residents form friendships with students from various backgrounds and nationalities.
- U.S. and international students will be paired as roommates where possible.
- Integration of the Communication across the Curriculum initiative with the residential college serves to develop skills in oral, written, visual, and technological communication.
- Language study groups help students develop their proficiency in a foreign language.
Curriculum
Students will take a sample of courses emphasizing global and international content. Most of these courses will fulfill university wide General Education requirements which must be met by all majors at LSU. Some curricular flexibility is possible for students in highly structured majors such as engineering. Juniors will be strongly encouraged to take advantage of LSU's wide range of opportunities for study abroad.
Required Courses
The Global Studies Residential College requires students to enroll in at least two Global Studies courses each semester. (click on "Course Requirements" for details) Special arrangements can be made for exchange students or international students whose degree programs cannot accommodate these courses.
Eligibility Requirements for First-Year Students
Course work or evidence of some proficiency in a second language is desirable.
Requirements
The program is open to first- and second-year studentse (or any undergraduate international exchange students), and all participating students must live in LeJeuene Hall. Upper-class students who wish to remain close to the residence hall, especially those who want to live near each other to maintain a language immersion group, may be offered the opportunity to live in nearby apartments.
